Zeekr’s August sales double to record as China’s NEV penetration tops 65%

Retail sales of passenger new energy passenger vehicles (NEVs) in China totaled about 1.04 million units in August, lifting their market penetration rate to 65.8%, according to a preliminary estimate from the China Passenger Car Association.
Among major NEV brands, Geely’s (0175.HK) Zeekr brand stood out with a 109% year-on-year jump in global deliveries during August to a record 36,981 vehicles. Zeekr’s cumulative sales in the first eight months of the year have already surpassed its total for all of 2025, while its monthly overseas sales topped 10,000 vehicles for the first time in August.
Meanwhile, Leapmotor (9863.HK) delivered 103,129 vehicles in August, up 80.7% year-on-year, exceeding 100,000 units for a second consecutive month. Li Auto (2015.HK; LI.US) delivered 37,679 vehicles during the month, up 32.1%, while BYD’s (1211.HK; 002594.SZ) monthly global NEV sales rose 17.8% to 440,293 vehicles, including 256,230 battery-electric vehicles.
Nio (9866.HK; NIO.US) delivered 35,836 vehicles in August, up 14.5% year-on-year, while Xpeng (9868.HK; XPEV.US) delivered 39,107 vehicles, up 3.7%. Xiaomi Auto, the NEV unit of Xiaomi (1810.HK), again delivered more than 30,000 vehicles in August.
