Camera module maker Q Technology (Group) Co. Ltd. (1478.HK) announced on Tuesday that its handset camera module shipments rose 39.4% year-on-year to 45.14 million units in May, and were up 7.7% from the previous month.
Within the total, shipments of camera modules with resolutions below 32 megapixels surged 75.2% year-on-year to 27.74 million units, while shipments of 32-megapixel-and-above modules increased 5.2% to 17.40 million units. Shipments of camera modules and LiDAR products for other applications reached 2.35 million units, up 52% year-on-year. Total shipments of camera modules and LiDAR products rose 40% to 47.48 million units.
Q Technology said the month-on-month and year-on-year growth in handset camera module shipments was mainly driven by a higher share of business from several key customers, including overseas clients. Meanwhile, sales of camera modules and LiDAR products for non-smartphone applications continued to improve, supported by strong year-on-year growth in demand from internet of things (IoT) and smart vehicle applications.
Shares of Q Technology opened lower on Wednesday and were trading at HK$7.98 by the midday break, down 7.32%.
