The Latest: BIBEE – a helmet brand that focuses on comfort and is popular on various platforms – will start selling its new LAVA-01 product launched in China this year globally in the first quarter of next year, with plans to open two new overseas sales channels, brand owner China Hangzhou Bee Sports Co. Ltd. said on Friday.

Looking Up: BIBEE said it uses a technology called LavaHeat for its helmets. Based on German technology, the helmets can quickly warm up users’ heads, giving the brand a competitive edge over rivals in the winter months.

Take Note: While BIBEE is ahead of its peers with the latest technology, the helmet brand will need time to build awareness. Its availability will also be subject to the company’s buildout of its distribution and marketing channels.

Digging Deeper: BIBEE set its eyes on helmet development for years before its upcoming first product launch. Using an overseas design team and working with domestic and foreign universities, its exclusive LavaHeat technology can quickly heat up and insulate users’ heads in cold weather conditions. Its R&D partner is one of China’s most experienced companies specializing in the manufacture of safety helmets. The helmet has quickly gained traction in China since its recent launch, leading the company to move quickly to expand its overseas sales channels. Growth of China’s safety helmet market has begun to accelerate in the last two years, with sales rising 21% to 4.7 billion helmets last year, as Chinese become more safety-conscious and more local governments require scooter riders to wear helmets.
