Impro Precision makes infrastructure

Robotaxi operator Pony AI Inc. (PONY.US) announced on Friday that it will deploy its robotaxis in Qatar through a partnership with Mowasalat, the country’s largest transportation services provider. The move marks Pony’s latest expansion in the Middle East, following its entry into Dubai.

Pony’s robotaxis have begun testing on public roads in the Qatari capital of Doha with safety operators onboard. The initial phase focuses on adapting the company’s technology to local weather, road infrastructure and traffic conditions. Pony Chairman and CEO James Peng noted that Qatar provides a unique environment for autonomous driving, and the collaboration with Mowasalat will help build a resilient and scalable solution to promote sustainable mobility in the region.

Pony currently operates in 16 cities across China, the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia, with its fleet expected to reach 1,000 vehicles by year-end. In the second quarter, the company’s revenue rose 75.9% year-on-year to $21.46 million, with robotaxi revenue up 157.8% to $1.5 million. The company’s quarterly net loss widened 72.8% to $53.1 million.

Pony’s stock edged up 0.66% to $13.71 on Friday in New York after the announcement, though the shares remain down more than 10% year-to-date.
