China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization protesting the European Union’s recent decision to levy anti-dumping tariffs against Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), Reuters reported. The complaint, filed on Friday, said the EU’s preliminary decision on Chinese EV imports lacked factual and legal basis, and seriously violated WTO rules.

The EU announced the preliminary findings of its investigation in June, saying it determined that Chinese EVs received unfair state support in the form of various government subsidies. It launched its investigation after Chinese EVs began flooding into the EU last year, leading local leaders to worry the wave of imports could endanger local EV makers.
