Macao’s June gaming revenue falls nearly 20% month-over-month

Macao’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) slipped 12.1% year-over-year to 18.52 billion patacas ($2.29 billion) in June, the city’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reported on Wednesday. The June figure was down by an even steeper 18% compared with May, as June marked both the lowest-grossing month of the first half of 2026 and the only month to post a year-over-year decline.
With the June performance, cumulative gaming revenue for the first half of the year came in at 126.9 billion patacas, up just 6.8% year-over-year — a sharp deceleration after cumulative gaming revenue consistently logged double-digit year-over-year growth in the first five months of the year.
Market watchers believe the World Cup in June may have triggered a decline in the number of gamblers visiting Macao. In addition, the diversion of some betting volume toward the World Cup took a toll on the city’s gaming receipts — an effect expected to spill over into July.
Despite that, Macao’s gaming revenue in the first half of the year already reached 53% of the government’s full-year projection. Moreover, visitor and gambler foot traffic are expected to see a potential “revenge” rebound after the World Cup, making it likely that revenue will hit the government’s full-year target of 236 billion patacas.
