BRIEF: Huawei’s revenue rises slightly in 2025

Huawei Technologies’ revenue grew slightly last year, as it continued to rebuild its business six years after receiving a major blow from U.S. sanctions. The leading telecoms equipment maker generated about 881 billion yuan ($128 billion) in revenue last year, Chairman Liang Hua disclosed at an event on Tuesday, up about 2.2% from 862 billion yuan in 2024.
The latest figure is just shy of the record 891 billion yuan Huawei posted in 2020, the first year after the U.S. started leveling a series of sanctions that nearly killed the company’s booming smartphone business. Its revenue fell 29% in 2021, and has been slowly rebounding since then, including a 22% increase in 2024.
Liang didn’t disclose a profit figure for 2025. But the company’s profits have been generally falling as its margins come under pressure. Its latest profit of 62.2 billion yuan in 2024 was down 28% from 87 billion yuan the previous year, while its operating margin fell to 9.2% from 14.8% over that period.
Huawei has revived its smartphone business in the last three years using its own self-developed chips and operating system, after being banned from using products from Qualcomm and Google. It has also moved aggressively into smart driving technology through partnerships with a growing number of automakers. But Huawei’s core telecoms equipment division has suffered as China sharply curtails its spending on 5G networks after several years of aggressive building.
