New energy vehicle (NEV) maker BYD Co. Ltd. (1211.HK, 002594.SZ) said on Sunday that it sold 441,706 vehicles in October, down 12% year-on-year. Its sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles plunged by a far larger 45% year-on-year to 214,297 units.

The company’s cumulative NEV sales for the first 10 months of the year totaled about 3.7 million units, up 13.88% year-on-year. Within that total, battery-electric vehicles performed the best, jumping 34.5% year-on-year to about 1.8 million units. But plug-in hybrid vehicle sales dipped 2.7% to about 1.8 million units.

The company’s commercial vehicle sales soared 128% year-on-year to 4,850 units in October, and its cumulative sales for that category jumped 240% year-on-year to 46,134 units in the first 10 months of the year.

Shares of BYD opened flat at HK$100.60 on Monday. The stock is down 36% from its 52-week high.
