Macao gaming revenue falls for fourth consecutive month in September

Gross gaming revenue in Macao totaled 18.06 patacas ($22.35 billion) in September, down 1.2% year-over-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of declines since May, the city’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau announced on Thursday.
Gaming revenue typically softens in September as tourist traffic tapers off with the end of the summer holidays. October often reverses the trend, as many tourists visit Macao during the Mainland’s weeklong National Day holiday that starts Oct. 1.
Macao’s cumulative gaming revenue for the first nine months of the year totaled 187.12 billion patacas, up 3.2% year-over-year, reaching 79.3% of the government’s full-year projection of 236 billion patacas. Typical strength in the fourth quarter, which includes both the National Day and Christmas holidays, means the city is almost certain to meet the government’s full-year target.
