Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker XPeng Inc. (9868.HK; XPEV.US) on Monday announced its first overseas manufacturing venture in Indonesia, with plans to start production in the country in the second half of this year.

According to a report on CnEVPost, XPeng plans to introduce versions of the XPeng G6 and X9 models in Indonesia for driving on the left side of the road through a strategic partnership with Erajaya Active Lifestyle (ERAL), a well-known local distributor. As Southeast Asia’s largest car market, Indonesia presents significant growth potential for XPeng. Data from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries indicates that sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the country exceeded 43,000 units in 2024, up 150% year-on-year.

XPeng previously announced a goal of expanding its international operations to more than 60 countries and regions this year, with a long-term vision of generating half of its sales from overseas markets within the next decade. XPeng’s stock rose 3.5% on Monday in New York to close at $24.56.
