Macao’s gross gaming revenue reached 22.16 billion patacas ($2.76 billion) in August, up 12.2% year-on-year and edging up 0.14% from the previous month, the city’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) said on Monday.

The haul marked the highest monthly revenue this year. Gross gaming revenue for the first eight months of this year totaled 163.05 billion patacas, up 7.2% year-on-year.

The city’s gaming industry got off to a slow start in 2025, with January revenue slipping 5.6% year-on-year. Growth remained mostly modest after that, hovering in the single-digit range for subsequent months. But the industry started to revive in May, with monthly revenue exceeding 20 billion patacas from May through August.

The Macau government revised its annual gross gaming revenue forecast downward to 228 billion patacas in May, from an initial 240 billion pataca target. The current growth trajectory suggests the city could reach the original 240 billion pataca full-year target.
