Lithium producer  Ganfeng Lithium Group Co. Ltd.  (1772.HK; 002460.SZ) announced on Monday that official production began at the first phase of its Goulamina spodumene project in Mali, Africa, with a planned annual capacity to produce 506,000 tons of lithium concentrate.

The project, located in southern Mali, is one of the largest lithium mines in Africa, covering an area of approximately 100 square kilometers with a total explored ore resource of 211 million tons, Ganfeng said. That corresponds to a total resource of approximately 7.14 million tons of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE), at an average lithium oxide grade of 1.37%

The company said that following the formal launch of the project’s first phase, it will accelerate its ramp-up of production, strengthening its core competitiveness in the global market.
