Investment losses erode Kingboard’s first-half profit

Copper-clad laminate manufacturer Kingboard Holdings Ltd. (0148.HK) said on Thursday that it expects to report a net profit of more than HK$2.7 billion ($346 million) for the first half of 2026, up about 4% year-on-year.
Kingboard said the profit from its copper-clad laminates segment surged more than 200% in the six-month period compared with a year earlier. But those gains were partly offset by its investment division, which recorded a loss of HK$500 million.
The company emphasized that its investment business has rebounded sharply since June, surpassing last year’s levels at the middle of the year, although the recovery isn’t reflected in the first-half results. Separately, the company disclosed that shortages of electronic glass yarn, electronic glass fabric, copper foil, and copper-clad laminates have become increasingly severe.
Kingboard shares opened up 15% at HK$46.08 on Friday. The stock is down 70% from its high in June this year.
