consumers are Xiaomi's target

Mobile lens manufacturer Q Technology (Group) Co. Ltd. (1478.HK) announcedon Thursday its camera module sales fell 19.2% year-on-year in March to 30.64 million units, but rose 28.2% month-on-month. Sales of its camera modules for mobile phones declined 20.1% year-on-year to 29.44 million units, but were up 28.5% month-on-month. Within that figure, sales of 32-megapixel and above camera modules rose 9.9% year-on-year and surged 60.7% month-on-month to 17.15 million units.

The company said the month-on-month sales growth in March mainly owed to seasonal factors. It attributed the year-on-year decline to its continued focus on mid- to high-end mobile phone camera modules and modules for other applications. Sales volumes for these mid- to high-end products recorded solid year-on-year growth.

The company also said its fingerprint recognition module sales surged 95.1% year-on-year in March to 17.29 million units and grew 26% month-on-month. The company attributed the sharp increase to its rising share of the fingerprint recognition module market.

Q Tech‘s stock opened 4.5% lower on Friday, but later reversed gains to close at HK$6.25, up 3.65% by midday break.
